Session - Time
Dan Milstein is one third of Hut 8 Labs, a small team that helps companies tackle the technical and business challenges that come with growth. He’s worked as a programmer, architect, team lead and product manager at a variety of startups over the last 15 years. He is fascinated by how software development lives at the intersection of complexity, human nature, and economic value. Some of his writing includes: How To Survive a Ground-Up Rewrite Without Losing Your Sanity and Coding, Fast and Slow: Developers and the Psychology of OverconfidencePurely hypothetically, Dan might have, at one point in his life, become profoundly obsessed with baseball, and then spent a few hundred hours building a system to allow him to identify baseball games on which one could profitably place bets. Even more hypothetically, he might have spent a summer actual placing those bets. This talk covers what, in this alternate universe, he learned about data engineering and analysis, the crawling of websites, statistics, R & Python, and the hypocrisies of Federal regulations on gamblingData Science & Engineering
